New credit card for campus travelers
Effective July 1, university-sponsored Diners Club cards will be replaced by U.S. Bank Visa cards for use in travel purchases. New cards will be issued to all cardholders before this date.

Because of this change, Diners Club has suspended cash-advance privileges associated with the travel card. Those who need cash advance capabilities between now and July 1 can visit www-travel.berkeley.edu/travel to download a request form. Forms should be sent to 441 University Hall, MC 1000.

Proposed Chavez holiday for UC
The Office of the President has proposed designating UC’s spring administrative holiday — held the last Friday in March at Berkeley — as Cesar Chavez Day.

The proposal seeks to honor Chavez’ impact on the farm labor movement and his influence on the state’s agricultural and labor history.

The proposal, if approved, will shift the spring holiday to the last Friday in March for all campuses. Campuses that do not use this date for their spring holiday will have until 2004 to adjust their calendars.

West campus entry gate receives award
The Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association presented the university with a special award for the new Class of ’53 West Gate, located near Oxford and Center streets.

The annual award recognizes renovation or new construction projects that incorporate historical sensibility.

The gate also received a commendation from the Downtown Berkeley Association, as a welcome addition to the ongoing revitalization of Center Street and an inviting link between downtown and the campus.

The Class of ’53 raised $250,000 to create the gate as their 45th reunion gift to the campus.

Web site showcases e-Berkeley efforts
E-Berkeley, the chancellor’s initiative designed to use the power of the Web to transform the way the university operates, has a new home on the Web.

The new site — http://callisto.chance.berkeley.edu/eberkeley/ — gives an overview of the initiative and the major projects that are part of the growing effort.

It also includes a news site with the latest updates, as well as a video from Chancellor Berdahl explaining e-Berkeley and its importance.
