Campus monetary experts to address ‘year of the euro’

30 January 2002 | Now that the euro is a fact of life throughout much of Europe, how is it likely to affect the European economy, the international monetary system and enlargement of the European Union?

Three leading campus monetary experts will address these issues Friday, Feb. 8 in a panel discussion organized by the Institute of European Studies.

Professor Barry Eichengreen, of the economics and political science departments, will examine the effects of the euro on the international monetary system and on the future of European integration.

Maury Obsfeld, Class of ’58 Professor of Economics, will discuss the future of the euro-dollar exchange rate, and whether the dollar will remain at its current rate of exchange with the euro.

Andy Rose, professor of business, will discuss the euro’s impact on the European economy, especially in regard to trade.

The event takes place from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Wells Fargo Room at the Haas School of Business. For information, call 643-2115.
