New office will process smaller construction projects
Processing of campus renovation and remodeling projects valued at $50,000 or less, previously handled by Capital Projects, will be performed by a new project management unit in Physical Plant–Campus Services.

The management change coincides with reorganization of Physical Plant–Campus Services and was designed to align the Berkeley campus with other UC campuses’ capital projects operations.

With its new and expanded role, Physical Plant–Campus Services will develop closer ties with building managers and department facility staff. Oversight of smaller construction projects will also ensure that campus customers receive prompt and cost-effective assistance for all renovations.

No changes to renovation requests or estimates have been introduced. Customers may go to prr.Berkeley.edu to submit requests.

Child care centers have some vacancies for kids of staff, faculty
Applications are accepted year round for the Harold E. Jones Child Study Center/University Preschool and the Clark Kerr Infant Center. Both centers have wait lists; vacancies are filled each fall (and mid-year when openings occur) from the lists.

Although the acceptance process began in February for spaces available in August, two slots remain open at the Child Study Center for boys who were born Oct. 1 through Dec. 2, 1999. Wait lists for other gender/age categories are also shorter than typical.

Children enrolled are observed for research and training purposes and participate in closely monitored research studies. The centers are open year-round from 7:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with short breaks between semesters. Programs are full-time, with limited half-time infant spaces.

Contact Randice Roberts at 642-7031 for information, or see www.housing.berkeley.edu/child/facstaff and ihd.berkeley.edu/child.htm for additional information and applications.

UC, CSU sign power supply contract
The University of California and California State University recently signed an agreement with APS Energy Services to provide direct access electricity to both university systems.

The two university systems’ original four-year direct access contract with Enron Energy Services expired March 31.

The new contract transfers service to APS Energy Services. The Phoenix-based company supplies electrical power to seven of the 10 UC campuses including Berkeley and 19 of the 23 CSU campuses, the CSU Chancellor’s Office and UC Office of the President.

APS Energy Services is a full-service energy provider offering services to commercial, industrial and residential customers. It is a member of Pinnacle West Capital Corp. In 1997, it became the first energy service provider to offer direct access in California.

Correction
A recent article on Cal Day incorrectly listed the location of the English department’s performance of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.” On Cal Day, Saturday, April 20, scenes from the play will be performed in the Maude Fife Room, 315 Wheeler Hall. From May 2 to 5, the play will be performed in front of South Hall.
