Lawrence Berkeley National Lab plans helicopter fly-over During the photo session, a helicopter will hover over the laboratory to document site conditions. Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory will use the photographs to confirm that vegetation management controls to minimize fire risks are in place. The lab hopes also to be able to identify any vegetation damage, such as that inflicted on Eucalyptus groves by the long-horned borer. New Riverside chancellor is first Latina to lead a UC campus Riverside is one of the fastest-growing campuses in the UC system. It is also the most diverse of the system’s nine campuses. Hispanic students make up about one-fifth of the campus’s enrollment. Cordova, Riverside’s seventh chancellor, replaces Raymond Orbach, who resigned this year to work for the U.S. Department of Energy. At a news conference following her appointment, Cordova said her top priorities would be managing Riverside’s growth, raising private funds and “finding more ways to get more people prepared for higher education, especially underrepresented minorities.” Symposium May 3-4 looks at the resilience of children The symposium includes talks by four leading scholars on childhood resilience, small group sessions involving participation from the community, and readings by winners of the Lisa Capps Memorial Essay Contest.
