CALS Project peace quilt
08 May 2002 | Joan Kemp, left, and Betsy Livak admire the fabric square they created for the CALS Project Peace Quilt, unveiled May 2 at an event celebrating the campus tutoring program and its contribution to world peace. The new quilt, created by 16 members of the CALS Project, expresses hope for peace and portrays the program’s role in improving cross-cultural communication at Berkeley. The CALS Project pairs volunteer tutors from campus with employees who want to improve their English literacy and math skills. Livak and Kemp first met in 1993, when Kemp chose Livak as her teacher. The next tutor training series begins Wednesday, June 5.
