Building an e-file of undergrad exams
The Library’s Digital Exam Program is intended to provide undergraduates with a centralized source of past exams to aid in their studies and preparation for future exams. Ideally, all academic disciplines would have exams from undergraduate courses held on the Library’s electronic reserve file, says program coordinator Esther Gold; at this stage only a small percentages of courses are represented there.

To build up this resource, all instructors are invited to submit past midterms and final exams for mounting on electronic reserve. Submissions should include a clean copy of each exam, and a signed permission form. For information, e-mail egold@library.berkeley.edu, or call 643-8111. Small-business vendor fair set for Sept. 12
The 14th Small Business Development Trade Fair will be held on campus from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., Thurs., Sept 12, in the Student Union’s Pauley Ballroom. The event will introduce small businesses to the Berkeley campus community and give campus departments a glimpse of the services and products small businesses offer.

Product demonstrations and displays are on tap, and balloons will contribute to the air of fun and festivity. Vice Chancellor Horace Mitchell will give the welcoming address. For information, call 642-8602, or contact Detra Morgan at dkm@uclink4.berkeley.edu

Guide on postdoc positions available
Information on postdoctoral appointments, for both faculty and prospective candidates, is available on the Web (spo.berkeley.edu) and in two new brochures, courtesy of the Sponsored Projects Office.

Both the printed and online documents outline several facets of holding postdoctoral positions on campus, including types of appointments available, terms of agreement, health insurance, privileges, and compensation. A listing of resources and referrals is also provided.

Energy-conservation measures urged
Campus energy-conservation efforts have reduced power usage by 3 to 5 percent since early 2001. To continue to save energy and to help avoid potential regional or statewide power shortages, campus offices are encouraged to enable power-saver modes on PCs, printers, and copiers, and to turn off unneeded lights, office machines, and appliances, especially between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. For more energy-conservation tips, see the website of the California Independent System Operator, at www.caiso.com/.
