Event to honor the late June Jordam
A memorial service and celebration of the life of June Jordan, professor of African American studies, will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 15, in Wheeler Auditorium.

The auditorium will accommodate invited family members, friends, and Berkeley faculty, staff, and students. Free tickets for remaining seats will be available in front of Wheeler Hall on a first-come, first-served basis starting at noon. The service will be also be broadcast live in 145 and 155 Dwinelle.

Speakers will include Chancellor Berdahl; Jordan’s collaborator Adrienne Torf; poets Adrienne Rich, Cornelius Eady and Janice Mirikitani; activist and author Angela Davis; poet and writer Sara Miles; scholar Bernice Johnson Reagon; musician Vicki Randle; and, speaking via videotape, authors Alice Walker and Toni Morrison.

Jordan died of cancer on June 14. The service was planned by her family and is sponsored by the African American studies department.

Lectures spotlight service learning
The campus Service-Learning Research and Development Cen-ter is sponsoring two lectures this fall. The first, at noon, Thursday, Sept. 12 in the Tang Center’s Class of ’42 Room, is a workshop on how faculty can incorporate service learning into their academic curriculum.

On Monday, Oct. 14, Vice Provost Christina Maslach and University of Michigan professor Barry Checkoway will discuss the role of service learning at research universities. The event is at noon, at a yet-to-be-announced location. For information, e-mail janepo@uclink.berkeley.edu or call 643-0513.

For the record
An article on faculty gatherings to focus on potential new academic programs, which appeared in the Aug. 29 issue of the Berkeleyan, included out-of-date information about the time and location of two events. The gathering to discuss Metropolitan Studies on Tuesday, Sept.17, will take place in the the Chancellor’s Conference Room, 200 Cali-fornia Hall. The Computational Biology gathering will now take place on Wednesday, Sept. 18, in 150 University Hall. Both will be held from 4 to 6 p.m.

In the same issue, a photograph that accompanied an article about fall-semester courses on war and terrorism should have been identified as part of a Berkeley Art Museum exhibition, “Migrations: Photographs by Sebastiao Salgado,” which was mounted earlier this year.

Also, a web address for the Library’s Digial Exam Program has caused some confusion because of the way it was punctuated. To view the page, see sunsite.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/eres/viewbycourse.pl?EXAMS.
