Sproul Plaza is the campus’s outward-looking public space, while this “large bulge” in the middle of Sather Road belongs more to the campus community. The settings of both Wheeler and Dwinelle halls are compromised by the present condition of the plaza, an unrelieved expanse of asphalt some 400 feet in breadth that ill befits the classicism of Wheeler in particular. A design plan for the site might include historically compatible paving, lighting, street furniture, landscaping, and signage.
