Appealing a parking ticket

Faculty and staff who feel they have received an unfair UC Berkeley parking citation can appeal the ticket to the campus’s Parking and Transportation office. Several methods for appealing citations are available:

By mail: Send a letter to the Parking and Transportation office at 2543 Channing Way, #5740, Berkeley CA 94720-5740. Responses are mailed within approximately 15 working days.

On the telephone: Appeals can be made on Tuesdays and Thursdays only, from 9 to 11 a.m., by calling 642-5408.

In person: Stop by the Parking and Transportation office (at the Channing Way address) on Wednesdays from 10 to 11 a.m. or 2 to 3 p.m.

E-mail: Send a message to ucappeal@uclink.berkeley.edu. Responses are mailed within approximately 15 working days.
Whichever method is used, action must be taken within 21 calendar days from the date the citation was issued.

When possible, decisions on appeals made by phone or in person are done on the spot; however, further investigation may be required. In either instance, appeal decisions will be sent via regular mail, as is done with mailed and e-mailed appeals.

Included in the mailed notification is an application for a hearing with a citation exam-iner, which can be submitted
if the appeal is denied. This form can be mailed (to the address listed above) or brought to the office, along with payment of the fine specified on the original ticket. The payment is placed in a holding account while this second-level appeal is being considered.
