Sonoma’s ‘Great Wall’

13 November 2002 | Campus artist-in-residence David Rabinowitch, a Dusseldorf-based sculptor, is currently completing this major new work (a 274-foot-long “sculptural habitation”) on the Sonoma estate of Stephen Oliver, a leading California art collector. The work is the focus of an interdisciplinary seminar this fall involving students, the artist, the collector, and contributing artisans.
Rabinowitch will also participate in a free public program at the Berkeley Art Museum, from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 21. He will discuss the work at the Oliver Ranch with project architect James Jennings, Dean of the College of Environmental Design Harrison Fraker, and Whitney Davis, chair of the Department of History of Art. Rabinowitch’s fall 2002 residency is sponsored by the Arts Research Center.
