The late Robert Brentano to be honored in Jan. 29 memorial
A campus memorial service honoring History Professor Robert Brentano, who passed away Nov. 21, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 29, in the Great Hall of the Faculty Club.

A scholar in medieval English and Italian history, Brentano served the campus as a teacher and leader for 50 years. “When we lost Bob Brentano, we lost a citizen of this university,” said Chancellor Robert Berdahl. “Bob was a noted scholar, a dedicated teacher, and a kind yet forceful leader. He will be dearly missed.”

Journalism faculty to debate U.S. policy toward Iraq
Christopher Hitchens, the I.F. Stone Fellow in the Graduate School of Journalism, and Mark Danner, staff writer for The New Yorker and a Berkeley professor of journalism, will discuss critical issues of American foreign policy in an event billed as “How Should We Use Our Power? Iraq and the War on Terror.” The debate takes place at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Zellerbach Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Haste Street to close to vehicles temporarily
Due to work on underground utilities for the new residence halls being built at Unit II, Haste Street between College Avenue and Bowditch Street is scheduled to be closed to vehicle traffic from Thursday, Jan. 23 to Friday, Jan. 31, weather permitting. The closure will be in effect weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pedestrians on Haste should use the north side of the street. Access to the Underhill Lot entrance on Channing Way will be unaffected.

Business-ethics lecture by Enron whistleblower Sherron Watkins
Named one of Time magazine’s “People of the Year” for 2002, Enron whistleblower Sherron Watkins will deliver the fifth annual Peterson Business Ethics Lecture at 5 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30, at the Haas School of Business’ Arthur Andersen Auditorium. Her theme will be improvements in corporate governance.
Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. A reception will follow in the Bank of America Forum.

ASUC book swap set for Jan. 24 on Lower Sproul Plaza

Public Health sponsors bioterrorism lecture series
The epidemiology division of the School of Public Health is sponsoring a series of spring semester talks about bioterrorism and other emerging infectious-disease threats. In the first lecture, Warren Winkelstein, professor emeritus of the Division of Epidemiology, will offer “A Short History of Biological Warfare: An Epidemiological View.” His talk is at noon, Friday, Jan. 31, in the Bechtel Engineering Center’s Sibley Auditorium.

Business Services announces new campus travel agent
Navigant International has been selected as the new travel agency serving campus business travelers, beginning Monday, Feb. 3.

To introduce the campus to Navigant, Travel Manager Joe Knowles will hold a series of informational forums beginning the week of Feb. 27. A Navigant representative will be on hand to answer questions.
