Capital punishment

LAW

Frank Zimring
A professor of law and a death penalty expert, Zimring directs the criminal justice research program at Boalt Hall’s Earl Warren Legal Institute.
Office: (510) 642-0854
Email: zimring@law.berkeley.edu
Law school media relations contact: Susan Gluss, 510-642-6936 or sgluss@law.berkeley.edu

Expertise: Zimring has written several books on topics including the changing legal world of adolescence, capital punishment and drug control. In 2003, he authored "The Contradictions of American Capital Punishment." He says clemency has become part of the politics of criminal punishment and has been slowly evaporating. When it comes to crime and punishment, Zimring says, there has been a conspicuous toughening of California's governor as well as the public.
