- The California Nurses Association (CNA) held a noontime protest on Thursday, July 21, at UC Berkeley's student health center and held similar events at several medical centers at other University of California campuses.
Service at UC Berkeley's student health center, the Tang Center, was not affected by the protest.
The CNA initially planned a one-day strike on Thursday, but on Wednesday, July 20, a Sacramento Superior Court judge issued a temporary restraining order against the CNA prohibiting the union and its members from striking at University of California facilities. In the wake of the ruling, the CNA said it instead planned rallies and picketing at the medical centers.
A PDF copy of the temporary restraining order can be downloaded from the UC Office of the President's Labor Relations website.
On the UC Berkeley campus, the CNA represents about 41 nurses at the Tang Center.
The CNA's key issue is wages. The contract for the affected workers expired on July 8.
