Cosby addresses Commencement Convocation Comedian Bill Cosby was keynote speaker at Commencement Convocation May 13, attracting an enthusiastic full house to the Greek Theatre. A strong advocate of education with an Ed.D., Cosby told the laughing seniors: "Now, for the first time in your life, you will be held responsible. Parents want to see you get a job. Your brothers and sisters have already taken your room and changed it. These people are tired of you." Commencement '97 More than 60 departments, schools, and colleges held graduation ceremonies May 10-22. About 8,500 students graduated-5,700 with bachelor's degrees and nearly 800 with doctorates. Speakers included attorney Johnnie Cochran (African American Studies), former presidential advisor George Stephanopoulos (political science), and actor Stacy Keach, '63 (Center for Theater Arts).
