A
dining hall "fast" this Thursday night (Nov. 30) by
hundreds of students at the University of California,
Berkeley, to benefit the hungry. In the spirit of holiday
giving, and as part of UC Berkeley's "Hunger Awareness
Week," some 800 undergraduates living in the campus's
residence halls will forgo dinner on Thursday. The Residence
Hall Assembly and Housing & Dining Services will contribute
the cost of the donated meals to the Alameda County
Community Food Bank. Instead of eating, fast participants
are invited to special student-led "Hunger in Alameda
County" workshops to learn about local issues surrounding
hunger and community service opportunities.
This
week's hunger awareness activities are being sponsored
by UC Berkeley's Cal Corps Public Service Center, a
program in the Office of Student Life.
