WHAT:

A
talk about reducing human hunger by George McGovern,
former U.S. senator from South Dakota and Democratic
presidential candidate. He currently is the U.S. representative
to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture
in Rome.
McGovern
will discuss his "affordable and achievable" proposal
to reduce human hunger by half within the next 15 years
and to end it - completely - by the year 2030. This
plan is detailed in his new book, "The Third Freedom:
Ending Hunger In Our Time," which will be on sale at
the event. He will sign copies.

BACKGROUND:
McGovern also was a decorated World War II bomber pilot,
holds a PhD in history from Northwestern University
and, in 2000, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
He was the first director of the U.S. Food for Peace
Program.
This
event is co-sponsored by the Goldman School of Public
Policy and the Commonwealth Club of California. Seating
is limited. UC Berkeley students will be admitted free,
while the fee for Commonwealth Club members is $5 and
general public, $10.
