WHAT:
"Rising Asia: A New Chapter of Opportunity," is the topic of the Haas Asia Business Conference at the University of California, Berkeley's Haas School of Business. Leaders in technology, international business and public policy will discuss the present and future of business in Asia.

Panel topics include capital markets and venture capital, manufacturing technology, biotech, e-commerce and localization, telecommunications and wireless, and entrepreneurship.

A simultaneous product fair offers hands-on experience with new technology coming out of Asia through companies such as Toyota, which will bring its hybrid gas/electric car Prius; Kivera, which will bring its MP3 players; Creative Technology; and Sony.

WHERE:
UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business, Arthur Andersen Auditorium. The Haas School is on Gayley Road between Hearst Avenue and Bancroft Way.

Dr. Ta-Lin Hsu, chairman and CEO of Hambrecht & Quist - Asia Pacific. The firm has invested in over 250 companies through 16 funds comprising managed capital of $1.6 billion.

John S. Wadsworth, Jr., honorary chairman of Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Asia Limited, which incorporates the firm's businesses for non-Japan Asia and Australia.

 
 

BACKGROUND:
Since devastating financial contractions in 1997 and 1998, Asian countries have grappled with wholesale economic and political reforms. This Haas School conference looks at how the Asian region has benefited economically.
