MEDIA ADVISORY: Nobel Laureate to deliver keynote address at UC Berkeley's annual Charter Day

WHAT:
Nobel Laureate Daniel McFadden will deliver the keynote address at the University of California, Berkeley's annual Charter Day festivities on Friday, March 23, at Zellerbach Auditorium.

This event will celebrate the university's 133rd birthday and its Nobel-Prize winning tradition. McFadden is a UC Berkeley economics professor who won the 2000 Nobel Prize in economics. He is the 17th member of the UC Berkeley faculty to be awarded the Nobel Prize.

Beginning at 10 a.m., faculty, staff and alumni will process in full academic regalia into the auditorium, and Chancellor Robert M. Berdahl will give a welcome. In addition to the keynote address, there will be a multi-media slide show honoring UC Berkeley's Nobel Prize tradition.

The Elise and Walter A. Haas International Award also will be presented, as will the Peter E. Haas Public Service Award.

An official birthday party will take place in Dwinelle Plaza from noon to 1 p.m.
