WHAT:
A seminar led by Sir Robert May, one of the United Kingdom's most esteemed and influential scientists, on "Science, Policy, and Public Attitudes: Conducting the Dialogue about Risk, Scientific Uncertainty, and the Public."

May has played a critical role in the development of policy aimed at addressing public concern over issues such as genetically modified foods, global warming, and the startling loss of biodiversity.

WHO:
May is president of the Royal Society (UK Academy of Sciences) and former chief scientific advisor to the British government. He has been at the forefront of debate between scientific method, political process, and the public. Trained as a theoretical physicist and applied mathematician, for the past 25 years May has studied various aspects of the way populations and communities are structured and how they respond to change, both natural and human-created. He is a professor at Oxford University holding honorary degrees from Yale, Princeton, Uppsala, and Sydney universities.
