WHAT:
A day-long conference to plan California's ability to respond to the aging of the baby boom generation, with a focus on training and education, including the roles of state colleges and universities.

WHEN:
Lynda Terry, director of the California Department of Aging and faculty members from the University of California, Berkeley, and UCSF, including UC Berkeley professor of social welfare Andrew Scharlach, first author on a recent UC-wide study of aging in California.

WHERE:
Friday, April 20, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

WHO:
Radisson Hotel at the Berkeley Marina.

BACKGROUND:
This conference will serve as a forum for Bay Area educators, service providers and other experts to consider the demographic changes that will affect California within the next decade and their impact on long-term care services, transportation, work, retirement and health, as well as recent state and local moves to prepare for these changes.

The University of California report that forms the basis of these discussions was carried out in response to Senate Bill 910. Legislative hearings on the report were held April 2 in Sacramento. The conference is co-sponsored by UC Berkeley's Center for the Advanced Study of Aging Services in the School of Social Welfare and the California Council on Gerontology and Geriatrics.
