MEDIA ADVISORY: Coping with Mental Illness and Crafting Public Policy

WHAT:
"Coping with Mental Illness and Crafting Public Policy," a daylong conference designed to promote a greater understanding of mental illness, including its physical causes. Participants also will discuss treatment options, outpatient care, and the push for increased medical coverage.

The University of California, Berkeley's Institute of Governmental Studies and the University of California San Francisco's Office of Continuing Medical Education is organizing the conference.

 
 

WHEN:
Saturday, Jan. 12, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

 
 

WHERE:
Wheeler Auditorium, UC Berkeley. (Some panelists will be based at UCLA. Participants from UCLA and UC Berkeley will be linked via teleconferencing equipment).

 
 

WHO:
Participants will include Dr. Robert Okin, a UCSF professor and vice chair of psychiatry and chief of psychiatry at San Francisco General Medical Center; Assemblywoman Helen Thomson (D-Davis), chair of the California Assembly Health Committee; and Lonnie Snowden, professor of social welfare, UC Berkeley.
