WHAT:
In late 1999, International and Area Studies announced that it would honor Dellums' years of service and commitment to peace and human rights issues by establishing a professorship and annual lecture in his name. Dellums, who was first elected to Congress in 1970 and served until 1998, obtained a master's degree in social work from UC Berkeley. Lee, who was elected to fill Dellums' seat in 1998, also received a master's degree in social work from UC Berkeley.

Lee was selected to deliver the first Dellums lecture based on her commitment to peace and justice.

WHO:
U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee will deliver the first annual Ronald V. Dellums Endowment Lecture at the University of California, Berkeley. The event is free and open to the public.

Congresswoman Lee will discuss the importance of advancing a progressive agenda in times of conflict. An audience Q&A will follow her address.

The event is sponsored by the campus's Peace and Conflict Studies program, part of International and Area Studies at UC Berkeley.
