WHAT:
"The Millennium Development Goals: The Struggle Against Poverty in the Global Economy," a public lecture at the University of California, Berkeley, featuring Harvard Professor Jeffrey Sachs, a leading international economist in globalization.

Sachs recently was named special advisor to United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan on millennium development goals.

Pimentel Hall, a round building in the northeast quadrant of campus, just north of Latimer Hall, near the East Gate on Gayley Road.

BACKGROUND:
The lecture is sponsored by UC Berkeley's Goldman School of Public Policy and is part of the 8th annual Aaron Wildavsky Forum for Public Policy, which honors the school's founding dean.

Sachs is a professor of international trade and director of the Center for International Development at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government.

His research interests include the linkages between health and development, economic geography, globalization, emerging markets, global competitiveness, transitions to market economies, international financial markets and macroeconomic policy coordination, and macroeconomic policies in developing and developed countries.
