WHAT: The University of California, Berkeley's annual Commencement Convocation, an annual gathering that honors all graduating seniors. Olympic gold medal skier Jonny Moseley will deliver the keynote speech.

|
WHEN: 4 p.m. Friday, May 17. The event, which includes several speeches and the presentation of awards to outstanding graduates, is scheduled to conclude shortly before 6 p.m.

|
WHERE: The Greek Theater, UC Berkeley. The amphitheater, which seats about 6,000 people, is on Gayley Road, near Memorial Stadium.

|
WHO: In addition to Moseley, who was invited to speak at the event by graduating seniors, others addressing the audience will include:*Shayna Parekh, a political science and interdisciplinary studies major, who will be awarded this year's University Medal, given to UC Berkeley's top graduating senior. Parekh, 21, also recently received a commendation from Gov. Gray Davis for academic excellence and outstanding community involvement. *UC Berkeley anthropology professor Alan Dundes, a well-known folklorist, who will give the faculty address. *Allison Olson, who delivered remarks in 1952-50 years ago-when graduating from UC Berkeley. Now a history professor at the University of Maryland, Olson will reflect on her years at UC Berkeley and share the wisdom of her experiences.

BACKGROUND: No diplomas are given out at Commencement Convocation. Instead, they are distributed during dozens of departmental ceremonies held at UC Berkeley in May. Tickets to convocation are given to graduating seniors and their families. The Greek Theater will open Friday at 3 p.m.
