A memorial service will be held Monday, Aug. 26,
by the University of California, Berkeley's Department
of History, for James Kettner, an early American history
scholar who died earlier this summer.
Colleagues,
friends and family members will participate in the
service, which will take place at 5 p.m. at UC Berkeley's
Alumni House. The service will be open to the public.
Kettner,
57, died at his home in Berkeley on June 24 from natural
causes. He was a member of the UC Berkeley faculty
for nearly 30 years. Colleagues remember him as someone
who always was available to advise students and assist
the history department.
