WHAT: A forum on whether broadcasters should be required to provide free air time for political candidate ads, debates and issue discussion before each election. The panel discussion is being sponsored by the Institute of Governmental Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. Almost $50,000,000 has been spent on political advertising in California in the first eight months of 2002. And with the fall elections rapidly approaching, this forum will provide an opportunity to discuss these pressing public policy questions. The event is free and open to the public.
