WHAT: The University of California, Berkeley's all-day map and book sale, with approximately 10,000 items available for purchase, a few of them dating back to the 19th century. Most maps will cost $2 each.Among the items are: * International maps of cities and countries * Nautical charts from the 20th century * Aerial and satellite photos * Hanging maps for classroom walls * California and U.S. topographical maps * Bureau of Land Management maps * Pilot and navigation charts * High-quality jet navigation charts * 2,500 books at $1 to $100 each. Book subjects include anthropology, classics, history, life sciences, linguistics, mathematics, philosophy, women's studies and more.

WHEN: 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5. From 3-5 p.m., maps will be half-price.

WHERE: Pauley Ballroom, 3rd floor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Student Union, UC Berkeley.

BACKGROUND: The campus map sale is held periodically to eliminate duplicate maps and other materials that are donated to UC Berkeley and to eliminate outdated items. This year, about 2,500 duplicate books from the library are being added. The sale i vs sponsored by UC Berkeley's Earth Sciences and Map Library, Department of Geography and UC Berkeley Library Bookstore.
