Ladder-Rank Faculty, 58% of primary

Also known as "Senate Faculty", these are assistant,
associate and full professors who are tenure-track or
have tenure. In addition to teaching, ladder-rank faculty
have research responsibilities.
Lecturers, 22%
Lecturers are professionals in their field who supplement
teaching at the university. Some lecturers are hired
because they provide unique expertise, others teach
in special programs such as the College Writing Program.
Lecturers also teach classes for faculty on sabbatical
or on leave. Their positions do not require them to
conduct research.
In fall 2001, lecturers taught 24% of
undergraduate classes and 12% of graduate classes.
Graduate Student Instructors, 5%
These are graduate students who teach as part of their
education; they are paid instructors.
Other, 15%
This includes visiting faculty, retired professors called
back to teach, clinical faculty and others.
