WHAT: An evening with Simon Winchester, author of the bestsellers, "The Professor and the Madman," about the making of the Oxford English Dictionary; and "The Map That Changed the World," about the orphaned son of an English blacksmith who became the father of modern geology.

BACKGROUND: Produced in conjunction with UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism, the free program is presented by Lonely Planet and hosted by Don George, global travel editor of Lonely Planet Publications, which produces more than 650 guidebooks in 14 languages.Winchester's visit is part Lonely Planet Conversations, an ongoing series of discussions about travel with renowned writers and adventurers. Seating is limited, so those interested in attending are encouraged to arrive early.
