The
Golden Bears' 30-7 defeat of the Stanford Cardinal in Saturday's
105th Big Game brought the Axe back to Berkeley, and the UC
Rally Committee wasted no time showing it off. Starting with
a noontime victory rally on the steps of Sproul Plaza, a crowd
of boisterous Bear fans carried their trophy through Sather
Gate to begin a meandering victory parade.
Stopping
in lecture halls and classrooms at Dwinelle, Evans, Pimentel,
Le Conte and Wheeler halls and elsewhere, the high-spirited
horde carried the Axe on high as they led cheers and sang of
the glories of Blue and Gold. With a chorus of "Sons of
California" on the steps outside Chancellor Robert M. Berdahl's
office at California Hall, the jubilant throng left no doubt
that the Axe is now firmly lodged in Bear Territory.
The
victory parade wends its way across Memorial Glade as
passers-by join in the cheers.
