"How Should We Use Our Power? Iraq and the War on Terror"

Vanity Fair contributing editor and I.F. Stone Fellow of the Graduate School of Journalism Christopher Hitchens and Mark Danner, staff writer for The New Yorker and a UC Berkeley professor of journalism, will discuss critical issues of American foreign policy in Iraq. This 7:30 p.m. debate at Zellerbach Hall is free and open to the public.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 29
"Seņiorita Extraviada"

This film, which investigates the crime wave in Juarez, Mexico, that has left more than 270 young women dead since 1993, will be presented by its director, Lourdes Portillo. Sponsored by the Graduate School of Journalism and Center for Latin American Studies, the film is open to the public and will begin at 6:30 p.m. at 105 North Gate Hall. THURSDAY, JAN. 30
Business ethics lecture features Enron "whistleblower"

Named one of Time magazine's "People of the Year" for 2003, Sherron Watkins will deliver the fifth annual Peterson Lecture about improvements in corporate governance. The lecture will be at 5 p.m. at the Haas School of Business' Arthur Andersen Auditorium. A reception will follow. Seating is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis; RSVP to Ute Frey at (510) 642-0342.

Politics and Principles
Author of more than 10 books, cofounder and national editor of The American Prospect, and previous secretary of labor to President Clinton, Brandeis University professor Robert Reich will deliver a lecture at 4:30 p.m in the Bechtel Engineering Center's Sibley Auditorium. Sponsored by the Goldman School of Public Policy, the lecture is open and free to the public and will be followed by a reception.

FRIDAY, JAN. 31
Bioterrorism lecture series

The epidemiology division of the School of Public Health is sponsoring a series of spring semester talks about bioterrorism and other emerging infectious disease threats. The first lecture will address the history of biological warfare. Warren Winkelstein, professor emeritus of the Division of Epidemiology, will speak at noon in the Bechtel Engineering Center's Sibley Auditorium.
