WHAT:
Sherron Watkins, the Enron "whistleblower" named one of Time magazine's "People of the Year" for 2003, will deliver the fifth annual Peterson Business Ethics Lecture at the University of California, Berkeley's Haas School of Business.

The former Enron vice president, who today lectures about ethics and improvements in corporate governance, advised top company officials about an elaborate accounting hoax within the energy firm in August and October of 2001. The company ignored Watkins' warnings and filed for Chapter 11 in December 2001. Watkins later testified before Congress about Enron's accounting irregularities.

5 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30.

WHERE:
Arthur Andersen Auditorium, UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business. The Haas School is just off Gayley Road on the east side of the campus, across from Memorial Stadium.

The lecture is being sponsored by the Haas School's Socially Responsible Business Leadership Initiative, an effort launched last fall by Tom Campbell, the Haas School's dean. Created in response to the widening ethics scandals in corporate America, the initiative coordinates the Haas School's teaching, research and public service activities in the areas of corporate social responsibility, ethics, social entrepreneurship, philanthropy and environmental management.

Watkins will not be available for media interviews. A question-and-answer session following the lecture is limited to student questions.
