City CarShare launches partnership with UC Berkeley 31
January 2003
BERKELEY - The ads say "Drivers Wanted." But if it's
wheels you want instead, you could get the use of a shiny green
VW Beetle through a new partnership between UC Berkeley and City
CarShare.

The nonprofit City CarShare is adding two Cal-based cars to its Bay
Area fleet for UC Berkeley faculty, students and staff who want the
occasional use of a car without the expense or waste of owning one.
CarShare members can reserve the cars — for an hour, an afternoon
or a day — by computer or phone, and then pay only hourly usage
and mileage charges. Membership requires a $300 refundable
deposit (waived for students) and a $30 application fee.
The Cal cars will
be based in the Upper Hearst parking lot on the north side of campus
and the Dana/Durant lot
on the south side. City
CarShare already has roughly 80 cars throughout the Bay Area in
other "pods" in
Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco and Palo Alto.
City CarShare representatives
will visit Sproul Plaza from noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5,
offering a peek inside one of the company's signature green Beetles
as well as information on becoming a CarShare member.
