WHAT
Cal Day 2003, the University of California, Berkeley's annual open house. More than 30,000 people are expected to attend this free event, one of the Bay Area's most popular. Hundreds of events will take place throughout the campus.

WHEN
Saturday, April 12, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.

DETAILS
There is something for everyone at Cal Day, including lectures, dance and musical performances, tours of the campus, special activities for children, a resource fair for prospective UC Berkeley students, and access to museums and labs, some usually open only to researchers.

For sports enthusiasts, events include skate boarding clinics and wall climbs, and a football scrimmage by the 2003 Golden Bear team at 11 a.m. at Memorial Stadium. UC Berkeley's women's water polo team will face rival Stanford University at Spieker Aquatics Complex from 12 p.m.-1:30 p.m.

This year, Cal Day includes the presentation of two alumni awards for distinguished achievement in international and domestic public service. The ceremony runs from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Wheeler Auditorium and includes a lecture by each winner.

Dr. Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-Jakti, economic minister of Indonesia, is the 2002 recipient of the Elise and Walter A. Haas International Award. Kuntjoro-Jakti's spouse, Emiwaty Kuntjoro-Jakti, will appear in his place to accept the award.

Armando de la Libertad, vice president of Wells Fargo Bank and chairman of the Orange County Hispanic Endowment Fund, will receive the 2003 Peter E. Haas Public Service Award. De la Libertad, who received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from UC Berkeley in 1993, will speak on "The End of All Education: Public Service."
