Earth day activities planned on campus

- Recycling, reducing, and re-using, will be spotlighted at UC Berkeley during the campus's third annual Earth Day celebration on Tuesday, April 22, 2003. Festivities include a reused notebook-making workshop, two Earthy Faires, one large biodiesel truck, and several Ecochats at the new Crossroads Dining Commons.

Events include:

  • 11-1 p.m. - Earthy Faire at Sproul
  • 11-1 p.m. - Strawberry Creek Cleanup, organized by Environmental Health and Safety
  • 11-4 p.m. - Reused Notebook Workshop at Sather Crescent, organized by IDISS
  • 5:30-7:30 p.m. - Earthy Faire at the Crossroads Dining Commons
  • 6:00-7:30 p.m. - Ecochat at Crossroads Dining Commons: Informal, environmental discussions with faculty, staff, and students in the nook near Fire and Ice. All are welcome.

The events are being coordinated by a coalition of campus environmental groups and departments including Capitol Projects; Campus Recycling and Refuse Services; Environmental Health and Safety; Parking and Transportation; and ASUC Auxiliary. Participating student groups include Berkeley Worms; Green Berkeley Campaign; ReUSE; IDISS; Residential Recycling Education Coordinators; CALPIRG; EcoPledge; About Face; Cal Vegans; Campus Greens; California Student Sustainability Coalition; and CHAOS. Also participating are the City of Berkeley's Car Share and Ecology Center organizations and the Sustainable Cotton Project.
