Physics professor George Smoot awarded Albert Einstein Medal

- On June 4, 2003, UC Berkeley Physics Department Professor George Smoot was awarded the Albert Einstein Medal for 2003. The Einstein Medal was presented by the president of the Albert Einstein Society, Professor Peter Fricker, at the University of Berne in Switzerland, to honor Smoot's pioneering work on cosmic microwave background.

The Albert Einstein Society organizes an annual Einstein Medal public ceremony in Berne to honor a person for outstanding scientific achievements and cultural merit. In accepting the award, Smoot, who also is a researcher at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, presented two talks: "Relativisitic Cosmology" (audio is 55 minutes) and another titled, "The new cosmology and the cosmic microwave background radiation."
