Haste Street closed September 29-October 7
BERKELEY – Haste Street between College Avenue and Bowditch Street is scheduled to be closed to vehicle traffic from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays only from Sept. 29 to Oct. 7.
The closure is needed to deliver and install granular fill material for the construction project underway at Unit 2. The fill material, which is used around the basement levels of the new residence hall, will be placed with a conveyer. The street will be open to vehicle traffic on Homecoming & Parents Weekend, Oct. 4-5.
Pedestrians on Haste should continue to use the walkway/sidewalk on the north side of the street. Access to the Underhill Lot entrance on Channing Way will not be affected by this work. We apologize for any inconvenience the street closure causes.
UC Berkeley is adding new housing for approximately 1100 students on the south side of campus. Construction of new residence halls is in progress on Durant Avenue, Channing Way and Haste Street (at Units 1 and 2). Apartment-style housing will be added along Dwight Way (Unit 2) and also at the building under construction near the corner of Channing Way and Bowditch Street.
Channing-Bowditch housing will open to students for the Fall 2004 semester. The buildings at Unit 2 are expected to be occupied in Spring 2005, and Unit 1 is scheduled to be complete in Summer 2005.
