WHAT
A reading at the University of California, Berkeley's popular Lunch Poems series by Robert Thomas, who for 20 years had been a legal secretary in San Francisco, writing in obscurity. Last year, the Oakland resident won the Poems Out Loud Award, judged by Pulitzer Prize-winner Yusef Komunyakaa.

Lunch Poems is under the direction of Robert Hass, a UC Berkeley professor of English and former U.S. poet laureate. The readings take place on the first Thursday of the month, September through May.
