DETAILS
The University of California, Berkeley, will host the 136th celebration of Charter Day on Thursday, April 15, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. At this year's event, faculty, staff, students, alumni and the general public will say farewell to outgoing UC Berkeley Chancellor Robert M. Berdahl. Festivities for Charter Day, which marks the establishment of the University of California in 1868, begin at 11 a.m. with student-led games and entertainment in Dwinelle Plaza. At 3 p.m., a Charter Day ceremony in Zellerbach Auditorium will feature colorful processions, a tribute to Berdahl, and presentation of the Peter E. Haas Public Service Award to community activist Corinne S. Jan, who graduated from UC Berkeley in 1976.
Parking is very limited in campus lots, so public transportation on BART or AC Transit buses is encouraged. For more information, go to www.urel.berkeley.edu/charterday.
