WHAT
"National Security in the Age of Terror," a talk at the University of California, Berkeley, by Gary Hart, former U.S. senator and co-chair of the U.S. Commission on National Security for the 21st Century. Before the events of Sept. 11, 2001, the panel warned of a massive terrorist attack in the United States and recommended creation of a homeland security department.

DETAILS
Hart, a former presidential candidate, is the author of a new book, "The Fourth Power: A Grand Strategy for the United States in the 21st Century." He also is advising presidential candidate John Kerry on issues of national security and foreign policy.

His talk, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by UC Berkeley's Goldman School of Public Policy.
