Cal Corps Public Service Center's Annual Community Day of Service

WHAT
Cal Corps Public Service Center's Annual Community Day of Service. In partnership with local groups, Cal Corps organizes University of California, Berkeley, students, staff, faculty and alumni to volunteer for a day working in East Bay neighborhoods on specific projects.

WHEN
Kickoff is at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, with volunteers at service sites from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WHERE
Volunteers will meet at the Mario Savio steps on Upper Sproul Plaza at UC Berkeley. They will then be divided and sent to various projects around town.

DETAILS
* Strawberry Creek Clean-up: Volunteers will remove trash, clear plants, and spruce up the creek that runs through UC Berkeley. Coordinated by the UC Berkeley Office of Environment, Health, and Safety.

* Strawberry Creek Outlet Restoration: At Eastshore State Park, near the Berkeley Marina, the mouth of Strawberry Creek will be restored by removing invasive plants. Coordinated by Friends of Five Creeks - volunteers protecting and restoring the creeks of North Berkeley, Albany, Kensington and southern El Cerrito and Richmond.

* People's Park Fall Clean-up: Cleaning the garden, repairing benches and repainting trash receptacles. Coordinated by the UC Berkeley Office of Community Relations.

* Pathway Steps Building: At Grizzly Peak Boulevard and Summit Road, near the Lawrence Hall of Science. Railroad-tie steps will be installed to create a new public pathway. Coordinated by the Berkeley Path Wanderers Association (510-540-7223, contact is Charlie Bowen).
