WHAT
Two discussion sessions at the University of California, Berkeley, examining such issues as national media coverage of education, new teacher preparation and college rankings.
WHEN
1-2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 16. Brown bag session with students at UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Education, in Room 2514 of Tolman Hall on Hearst Avenue.
4-5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 16. Question-and-answer session at UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism library at North Gate Hall,near the intersection of Hearst and Euclid avenues.
WHO
Leading the discussions will be Ben Wildavsky, a longtime education journalist and author of "U.S. News Ultimate Guide to Becoming a Teacher," a new book about teacher preparation, education reform, and the opportunities as well as challenges facing aspiring teachers. Approximately 2 million new teachers will be needed across the country during the coming decade due to increasing student populations and teacher retirements.Wildavsky supervises weekly education coverage at U.S. News & World Report, and is editor of its signature college and graduate school guides.
