– The first round of voting for the "mtvU Strips" contest is over, and it's down to five finalists — including UC Berkeley senior Deana Sobel and her Daily Cal comic strip, "Roomies."

Strip fans now have until December 5 to help determine the contest winner from among the finalists: Greg Scanlon's "Metro Center" from the University of Virginia; Tony Carrillo's "F Minus" from Arizona State University; Dud Lawson's "The World According to Dud" from the University of Missouri, Columbia; Joy Dike's "Mows" from the University of Georgia at Athens; and Sobel's "Roomies."

You can vote as many times as you like - in fact, the mtvU website encourages it.

Web voters will join contest judges Scott Adams (creator of "Dilbert"), David Rees ("Get Your War On") and representatives from United Media and mtvU to pick the winner. The winner will receive a development deal with major comic syndicate United Media - a staggering head start on a difficult career path.

"I'm really excited to have made it this far," Sobel said from her parents' home in San Diego. "Even if I don't win, it's been wonderful to have the support of the Berkeley community."
