WHAT
"The American Presidency in 2005," a lively discussion between journalists and scholars about the past year of the U.S. presidency. This annual assessment of the presidency, now in its 24th year, is sponsored by the Institute of Governmental Studies at the University of California, Berkeley.
Panelists will address the meaning of the 2004 election, the makeup of the new administration and Congress, and the issues that will dominate the political agenda in the near future.

Gerald Lubenow, director of the institute's Center on Politics, will moderate the discussion that will include the following:
Eleanor Clift, contributing editor at Newsweek magazine, panelist on PBS's McLaughlin Group, and author of the book "Founding Sisters and the 19th Amendment" (Wiley, 2003).
William K. Muir, professor emeritus of political science, UC Berkeley, author of the book "The Bully Pulpit: The Presidential Leadership of Ronald Reagan," former journalist, and former speechwriter for then-Vice President George Bush.
Michael Nacht, dean of the Goldman School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley and chairman of the U.S. Secretary of Defense's Advisory Committee on Terrorism and Weapons of Mass Destruction. He teaches and writes in the field of national security.
Nelson W. Polsby, UC Berkeley professor of political science and author of the book "Presidential Elections."
Robert Reich, Brandeis University professor and distinguished visiting professor at UC Berkeley's Goldman School of Public Policy. He is author of the book "The Future of Success: Working and Living in the New Economy" (Vintage Books, 2002).
