Haas program helps youth join college track

WHAT
Ninth-graders from the Bay Area's most disadvantaged school districts will present their ideas for businesses they could feasibly start while still in high school at the 14th annual Youth Venture Capital Competition (YEAH) at the University of California, Berkeley's Haas School of Business.

The competition is the culmination of 40 students working with UC Berkeley MBA mentors for a year to improve their study skills and hone their business plans, which will be judged by a panel of by venture capitalists, educators and community leaders.

The prize is a savings bond to be applied to higher education costs.

WHEN
9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Saturday, April 23. Student presentations begin at 9:45 a.m., and the awards ceremony starts at 11:30 a.m.

WHERE
Arthur Andersen Auditorium at the Haas School, which is located on Gayley Road, between Hearst Avenue and Bancroft Way.

WHO
Students from the Oakland, West Contra Costa, and Berkeley unified school districts.
