"France and the United States: Facing Common Challenges," an address by Jean-David Levitte, ambassador of France to the United States. The event is being held by the University of California, Berkeley's Institute of Governmental Studies and co-sponsored by the campus's Institute of European Studies and Graduate School of Journalism, and by the World Affairs Council.
Levitte will speak on changing French-U.S. relations in the wake of recent developments following the re-election of President Bush; United States acceptance of European initiatives with Iran; the nomination of former U.S. Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz as head of the World Bank; and other recent trans-Atlantic events. The upcoming vote on the European Union referendum and France's position on EU-U.S. relations will also be discussed.
