UC Berkeley to be base for national journalism education initiative

An announcement in New York City by the Carnegie Corp., the Knight Foundation, and five top universities and journalism schools - including the University of California, Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism -- of a multi-year, multi-million dollar initiative to revitalize and reform journalism in the United States.

The program will be based at UC Berkeley.

11:30 a.m. EST, Thursday, May 26

The Carnegie Corp. office, 437 Madison Ave., New York City. A call-in number will be available for reporters who cannot attend in person.

Scheduled to speak at the press conference are Orville Schell, dean of UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism, and Don McQuade, vice chancellor for university relations at UC Berkeley.

Also participating in the briefing will be representatives of Columbia University, the University of Southern California, Northwestern University, Harvard University, and the presidents of the Carnegie Corp. and the Knight Foundation.
