College Information Day to be held Saturday at UC Berkeley

WHAT
The 28th annual College Information Day, hosted by the University of California, Berkeley.

Representatives from more than 60 public and private colleges and universities will hold an information fair at UC Berkeley to provide students and their parents with tips and insights on admissions, financial aid, college preparation and more. The event is free and open to the public. Students ages 12 and up are especially encouraged to attend.

More than 1,000 students and their families traditionally attend this fair, the largest of its kind in the East Bay. It is sponsored by the East Bay Consortium/California Student Opportunity and Access Program.

This Saturday, Oct. 29, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

DETAILS
Activities will include:

• A welcome at 9 a.m. by Monica Montenegro, executive director of the East Bay Consortium, and Georgia Webb, UC Berkeley associate director of undergraduate admissions
  
  
• Workshops in English and Spanish
  
  
• For middle school students, the chance to ask questions of a panel of college students currently attending a variety of California colleges and universities
  
  
• "College: Making It Happen," a workshop for middle school students and parents
  
  
• Workshops for high school students about completing the UC and CSU college applications; about writing the personal statement required by the UC; about financial aid; about college entrance exams; and about independent colleges
  
  
• A workshop on historically black colleges and universities
  
  
• A workshop for students interested in transferring to a larger institution after beginning their degrees at a community college
