Bancroft Library announces new archive

WHAT
The largest single gift ever to the Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley, will be announced at a press conference and reception. The contribution of materials contains invaluable and unique articles and photos from the history of California and the world. The library's pictorial collection will more than double with this landmark contribution.

4:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 4

WHERE
The Morrison Library on the first floor of Doe Library, near the center of campus

WHO
The donors of the new archival material will be present at the announcement, along with UC Berkeley Chancellor Robert Birgeneau; University Librarian Tom Leonard; Charles Faulhaber, director of The Bancroft Library; and Peter Zhou, director of the East Asian Library.

DETAILS
Prior to this donation, The Bancroft's collection totaled 60 million manuscript items, 2.8 million photographs and other pictorial items, 23,000 maps and 600,000 printed volumes.

The Bancroft Library boasts the UC Berkeley library system's largest collection, which provides extensive documentation of the history of western North America, including California, Mexico, and Central America. It is celebrating its centennial this year.
