Mental Health Policy, Stem Cell Research topics of symposium

WHAT
"Toward a Health Policy Agenda for All Californians," the annual symposium of the University of California, Berkeley's Nicholas C. Petris Center. This year's event brings together a panel of state and national experts to address two critical areas of health policy: the impact that the Mental Health Services Act of 2004 (Prop. 63) has had on California's mental health system; and the economic, political, legal and public policy impacts of stem cell research and the California Stem Cell Research and Cures Act of 2004 (Prop. 71).

WHEN
Friday, April 21. The keynote addresses and Mental Health Services Act panel take place from 1-3:35 p.m. The stem cell panel will be from 3:35-5 p.m.

WHERE
The Berkeley City Club, 2315 Durant Ave., Berkeley

WHO
There are two keynote speakers:


  • Kimberly Belshé, secretary of the California Health and Human Services Agency. She oversees the state's health-care delivery systems.

  • Paul B. Ginsburg, a noted expert on the changes that are taking place in the health care system and the outlook for its future. He is president of the Center for Studying Health System Change in Washington, D.C.

Other speakers include Edward Penhoet, president of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation; Darrell Steinberg, chair of the Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission; Stephen Mayberg, director of the California Department of Mental Health; and Bruce Cohen, president and CEO of Cellerant Therapeutics, Inc.
